Hi there, it’s so sad to hear about the Black Rhino. One animal I feel is always overlooked, and when it doesn’t it gets an unbelievably bad rap is the Great White Shark, indeed all sharks.

If you look at the damage the chopping down of rainforests is doing to the planet, this is actually infintissimal compared to the alarming reduction in Phytoplankton in our seas. Phytoplankton account for half of all photosynthetic activity on Earth, thus phytoplankton are responsible for much of the oxygen present in the Earth’s atmosphere – half of the total amount produced by all plant life. However, since 1950 alone, algal biomass has been reported to have decreased by about 40%.

It might seem like I’m straying, however, phytoplankton being at the bottom of the food chain are intrinsically linked to the top of the food chain. Enter the shark! With over 100 million sharks being needlessly killed each year, the delicate balance of the marine food chain is in upheaval, and it means that the rise in numbers of fish that live off phytoplankton is massively reducing the number of phytoplankton in our oceans, the most critical singular species on a planet that is 70% water! Hence the Shark is possibly the one species that could help reverse global warming, not bad for a vicious predator that probably kills no more than what.. 10 people a year!!??

Wendy’s Drive-Thru Worker, Juan Antonio Rosa, Gets Nearly 22 Years For Selling Child Porn

For most people, “Scooby Doo” conjures up images of the popular Hanna-Barbera cartoon series. But for a Wendy’s drive-thru attendant, it was a code word his customers used to order child pornography, hidden in fries.

On Wednesday, Juan Antonio Rosa, 36, was sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison for distributing child pornography. The father of two young daughters used his job as a Wendy’s drive-thru attendant to sell memory cards filled with child porn to people he allegedly met online through social networking sites, according to the Associated Press.

Rosa then instructed his customers to say “Scooby Doo” or “sh*t on a stick” on the speaker as they drove through his northwest San Antonio Wendy’s. He proceeded to place the memory sticks, for which he charged $50 each, in a carton of fries. They each contained between two to five videos.

“It kind of gives new meaning to, ‘Would you like fries with that?'” Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Thompson told the U.S. District Court.

For its part, Wendy’s International Inc. distanced itself from the scheme.

“I can tell you the San Antonio franchisee has no knowledge of the incident,” said Wendy’s spokeswoman Andrea Winans in a statement to the press. “They have no information or any police report of this incident occurring at a Wendy’s there.”

But Rosa’s track record in child pornography had already been established by the time he was hired by Wendy’s in 2010. He began working for Wendy’s shortly after serving jail time for a previous child porn conviction, according to news reports. He was apprehended in this most recent incident after child porn reportedly was found on his home computers in Converse, Tex.

The conviction of Rosa comes amid a series of incidents involving workers at eating establishments throughout the American South. In a separate case in San Antonio on Wednesday, 58-year old Ernest Zapata was sentenced to 51 years for selling heroin to customers at his restaurant, Anna’s Cafe. His patrons used the code word of “chiva” to order the heroin, according to the San Antonio Express.

And as was reported on AOL Jobs, former McDonald’s drive-through attendant Kristy Perez was given three years probation and 100 hours of community service on June 26 by the Florida courts for a 2010 incident in which she assaulted customers while hurling homophobic epithets at the gay customers. Ryan Snyder, one of the men involved in the incident, was given a black eye. He is currently seeking at least $15,000 damages from Perez and McDonald’s in a civil suit.
